What are synthetic fragrances?

Synthetic fragrances are artificially produced in the laboratory, mostly based on petrochemical compounds.
Their goal is to create a specific scent that is as stable, intense, and consistent as possible.
They often consist of individual isolated fragrance molecules and contain no natural accompanying substances.
As a result, they lack a holistic effect and can cause irritation or intolerances – especially in sensitive skin.

Synthetic fragrances are primarily used in conventional perfumes, detergents and personal care products because they are inexpensive and long-lasting.

What are essential oils?

Essential oils are natural fragrances obtained directly from plants, flowers, leaves or peels – usually through steam distillation or cold pressing.
They contain a complex combination of many natural ingredients that carry the characteristic scent and therapeutic effect of the plant.

Why Barau uses exclusively natural fragrances.

At Barau, we exclusively use pure essential oils, preferably from controlled organic cultivation.
Each fragrance composition is formulated in a low, skin-friendly concentration to respect the skin's natural balance.

We determine the dosage ourselves, but we strictly adhere to the limits and safety guidelines of the IFRA (International Fragrance Association).
These international regulations define the maximum permissible concentration of individual fragrances and serve to protect the skin and health.

Out of love for the animals, most of our products are vegan.
Nevertheless, we have consciously decided to make an exception in some places.

The reason for this is that in these specific cases, the effectiveness of the formula would be significantly reduced if we had used the vegan alternatives currently available on the market. We love animals, but our priority is to offer you the best possible and highest bioavailability of the products.

Oils, butters, flavorings and pigments are of course 100% natural, raw and therefore unrefined, and of plant origin.
